Medical Equipment Loans
We loan medical equipment, at no cost, to our Oak Harbor community: bath seats, bath rails, bathtub transfer benches, bed rails, bedside tables, canes (metal, wood, or quads), bedside commode, crutches, toilet risers, hospital beds with mattresses, Hoyer lifts, IV stands, shower chairs, toilet safety frames, transfer boards, trapeze bars, walkers (including rigid, hemi, 2-wheel and 4-wheel w/bench seats), and wheelchairs (manual). For more information, to donate equipment, or if you need equipment, please call or text 360-499-6476. This program takes 3-4 active volunteers to make it all possible. Pickups are by appointment only. While we loan equipment at no cost to the user, we do gladly accept check, cash, and credit card donations to support our ongoing efforts.
Island Senior Resources https://senior-resources.org/medical-lending-library/
Open for Donations and Pick-ups: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday | Noon – 3 p.m.
917 E Whidbey Ave, Oak Harbor A modular home next to the Senior Center. Follow the signs to back door entrance on side of the building.
Do you have items to donate? The Medical Equipment Assistance program is made possible by supporters like you! We accept monetary donations and donations of clean, sanitized, and durable medical equipment in good working condition. Please note, we cannot accept items that are principally fabric or foam, such as lift chairs, knee or back braces, or orthopedic boots. Additionally, we cannot accept ‘prescription or personal items’ such as diabetes testers, prosthetics, colostomy, incontinent, or c-pap or airborne equipment. Incontinent products can be donated to Garage of Blessings or “For the Girls” programs.
We CANNOT accept electronic wheelchairs due to cost prohibitive battery replacement costs. For electronic wheelchairs, please contact Veteran & Community Mobility Center, Rich Sundance 360.420.4046. Per Rich, “for electric wheelchair donations, if possible, please text photos. For requests, please call/text: recipient’s height, approx. weight, any special needs such as tilt, lift, recline, elevate, electric light extensions, etc.”

Our additional projects:
We proudly support Coupeville Central Lions Club’s Mexicali Project which brings medical equipment and eyeglasses to rural areas of Mexico.
Annually, we typically support local Summit Assistance dogs, Leader Dog, and Dog Guides.

Scholarships
We offer two scholarships to graduating Oak Harbor Seniors: Chuck Anderson Vocational Scholarship and Dur Roberson Academic Scholarship. For more information, contact your guidance counselor.
Camp Horizon
We participate by fundraising, performing maintenance at the camp, sponsoring campers, and serving meals at Camp Horizon.
Flag Support
Each year, we proudly display hundreds of American flags throughout the community on special occasions, made possible by the generous support of local businesses and individuals. Example dates include parades, MLK Jr. Day, Presidents Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Holland Happening/Culture Fest, Memorial Day, Juneteenth or Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, September 11, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Day.
Please note that dates may occasionally vary based on volunteer availability, and frozen ground may prevent flag placement. If you’re interested in volunteering, we need 8 people to help with both morning and evening flag setup. We can provide high school and command volunteer letters. Contact us to get involved!
Effective July 1, 2024, the flag program is no longer a sponsorship based program, but a service project. Donations are welcomed for upkeep and replacement of the flags, holes, and poles. Click HERE to donate.
In the news…

Global Causes Hunger & Diabetes
Locally, we support North Whidbey Help House who supports our vulnerable community members. They also prepare special food boxes for those with diabetes. Hunger and Diabetes are two Lions Global Causes. In July, we collect food donations to stuff the bus for Christmas in July.
As a fundraiser to support Lions programs, we have an annual fruit sale. Our beautiful trailer was rebuilt in 2015 thanks to donations and support from our local Home Depot, Frontier Building Supply, and Les Schwab and volunteers.

Global Cause Environment: Earth Day and Adopt-a-Road
Quarterly, we pickup litter on State Route 20, from Monroe Landing Road to Sidney Street, a distance of about four miles. This project requires about 16 Lions to safely complete, and takes only about one hour. After, we often gather at a local restaurant for breakfast. We can provide high school and command volunteer letters. Due to state adopt-a-highway requirements, volunteers aged 16+ are invited to volunteer with us.

Annually, we support Lions in Deception Pass cleanup day near Earth Day. The environment is one of Lions International Global Causes. To participate with us, give us a call or watch Facebook for details.
