Vision – Global Cause and Hearing
Vision is a Global Cause for Lions Clubs International since 1924 when Helen Keller asked the Lions to become “Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness.” We provide vision tests, glasses, and hearing aides to members of our community who qualify financially. We provide vision screening to the Oak Harbor School District for compliance with State mandated testing of elementary students. We also support local and national eye banks though the White Canes Program. For more information or if you need glasses, please call 360-320-7066. If you need hearing aids, please call 360-320-0161

Medical Equipment Loans
We loan medical equipment, such as hospital beds, walkers, wheelchairs, shower/bath seats, toilet risers, knee scooters, and more, at no cost, to members of our community. For more information, to donate equipment, or if you need equipment, please call 360-499-6476.
We also participate in Central Lions Club’s Mexicali Project which brings medical equipment and eyeglasses to rural areas of Mexico. If you are interested in volunteering for our local program, please call us. The program takes 3-4 active volunteers to make it all possible.
At this time, we cannot accept ‘prescription items’ such as diabetes testers, prosthetics, colostomy, incontinent, or c-pap machines. Incontinent products can be donated to Garage of Blessings or “For the Girls” programs.
We also do not accept electronic wheelchairs as the battery replacement costs are prohibitive. For electronic wheelchairs, please contact Veteran & Community Mobility Center, Rich 360.420.4046. For donations, if possible, please text photos. For requests, please call/text “how tall, approx. weight, any special needs such as tilt, lift, recline, elevate, electric light extensions, etc.”

Adopt-a-Highway
Quarterly, we pickup litter on State Route 20, from Monroe Landing Road to Sidney Street, a distance of about four miles. This project requires about 16 Lions to safely complete, and takes only about one hour. After, we often gather at a local restaurant for breakfast. Those ages 16+ are invited to join us! We can provide high school and command volunteer letters.

Memorial Day – Service of Remembrance
On Memorial Day each year, Oak Harbor Lions sponsor an annual Service of Remembrance to honor our fallen heroes of all branches of Military service. This ceremony is co-hosted by Island County Cemetery District #1: Maple Leaf Cemetery in Oak Harbor, and by our local VFW, American Legion, and Fleet Reserve Associations.
We invite Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor NJROTC, Oak Harbor Fire and Police Departments, and local and state dignitaries to participate each year, and include guest speakers and musical presentations from members of our community.
